After the introduction of positive psychology, which is the scientific study of optimal human functioning, the paradigm for psychology and psychiatry have started to be changed. A science of positive subjective experience, positive individual traits, and positive institutions promises to improve quality of life and prevent the psychopathologies that arise when life is barren and meaningless. The authors have developed the happiness promoting program, ¡°Optima 9 Program-Invitation to be an optimist¡±, based on the principle of positive psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy. The programs were performed 6 times from November 2006 to March 2008 and 142 volunteers participated in the program expressed profound gratification. It is needed in the future that basic research data to set up the program are collected and the program has a variety of applications in mental health area.
